Getting JAVA to work

For some reason, I have Java installed via OpenOffice.org, however Firefox can't seem to recognize it. Any ideas on how to fix this? I just get prompted to install Java every time I come to a page with a java applet in it... How do I fix this?

I am using Firefox 3 BTW...

Stupid Apache digest auth problem...

Simply put, two identical boxes, side by side on my LAN, one running CentOS 4.6, the other Mandriva 2007 PowerPack. So for our example I will call the CentOS box COS, and Mandriva MDV for shortness... Both are running Apache. Document root is /var/www/html There is a subdirectory tree I want to prot...

Cluster Suite in CentOS?

I am not sure if Red Hat released the cluster suite under the GPL, or if it is closed code... Did cluster suite make it to CentOS?

I have a HA cluster project I am wanting to work on for work and would prefer to use CentOS for this if possible...

more on file hits a certain point, then terminal text color

I figure you guys and gals are all pretty smart, and it would appear I have been asked a question I wouldn't have thought to try (I usually use less | grep to find what I want...) When reviewing certain files, the user will run more filename, then /string desired and find a place in the file to find...

Ideas for backup strategy on home workstation...

With the proliferation of data, even on my home machines, I have found a need for a backup solution beyond the capacity of DVD RW. (which works fine for some stuff, but not everything). I was hoping I could maybe get folks to share success stories about their backup strategies on a budget. I mean I ...

Re: emu10k1 on CentOS 5.1 not working...

Okay, I have run the following... System > Preferences > Sound' and check under the 'Sounds' tab that 'Enable software sound mixing (ESD)' and 'Play system sounds' are enabled. (They weren't, they are now). 'System > Preferences > Volume Control' and check if 'Master' and 'PCM' are not muted. Also, ...

Re: emu10k1 on CentOS 5.1 not working...

That kind of makes sense. I had to do something similar with Mandriva way back when... It amazes me how long it has been since I have had to reinstall an OS on this thing... AS far as the PSC1315 goes, there was an updated HP support package (don't recall offhand what) that I grabbed with yum update...

emu10k1 on CentOS 5.1 not working...

I finally bit the bullet and got rid of Mandriva 2005 PowerPack in favor of CentOS 5.1. It took a failing hard disk to do it, but I did it... I have a couple of small problems with the switch hardware related though... #1. My Creative Live 5.1 (emu10k1) shows up in system-config-soundcard, and it sh...

stupid httpd question...

Sorry for asking this because I SHOULD know it, but how do I go about finding out who httpd runs as?

I am coming to CentOS from Mandriva (2007 is just too buggy!) and I think I got way too used to the gui tools Mandriva uses...
