Re: VMware server 2.0.2 and centos 5.5 - resolutions
With the update to firefox 3.6 there is another issue which is that the remote console plugin will not work with firefox 3.6 http://communities.vmware.com/thread/252218 A resolution of this is to run the remote console from the command line (or create a launcher for the command). The executable is c...

VMware server 2.0.2 and centos 5.5 - resolutions
The issues with VMware server 2 and centos since 5.4 are well documented in various places on the web including some of these fora (though buried under more general subject headings). Though some people report everything working under CentOS 5.5 this is not my experience (on an x86_64 host running C...

Re: Centos 5.4 upgrade breaking dovecot on NFS4
Just to confirm, reverting the NFS server to kernel-2.6.18-128.7.1.el5 solved this issue.

Re: Centos 5.4 upgrade breaking dovecot on NFS4
OK - I think I have been hit by this bug and errata: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=524520 https://rhn.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2009-1548.html If only I had waited longer before upgrading to CentOS 5.4! - Still, could be worse - I could have had the upstreams release for the past month an...

Centos 5.4 upgrade breaking dovecot on NFS4
I have just taken the plunge and upgraded my servers from CentOS 5.3 to 5.4 and have hit a problem which I wonder if anyone else has seen. Dovecot is now unable to completely access my nfs4 mounts. (My setup has email in Maildir in users home space which is mounted on the dovecot server using NFS4, ...

Re: Problem with secondary groups and LDAP authentication
This issue is now resolved - thanks Trevor! My problem was with /etc/nsswitch.conf which I modified in line with the recommendation I found in this thread: http://www.centos.org/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?forum=41&post_id=31704&topic_id=9832 I have updated that thread with what I believe is the cor...

LDAP Blocking Local User Logins
Sorry to resurrect an old thread but the posted the fix
passwd: files [!NOTFOUND=return] ldap shadow: files [!NOTFOUND=return] ldap group: files [!NOTFOUND=return] ldap
in /etc/nsswitch.conf is NOT the correct resolution to this problem. If you do this you will be unable to use the LD...

Re: Problem with secondary groups and LDAP authentication
It is to do with the settings of my /etc/nsswitch.conf. If I remove the [!NOTFOUND=return] statements then it works as expected.
Thanks very much for the help. Now I just need to ensure that I can still log into the system as a local user even if the LDAP server is down.

Re: Problem with secondary groups and LDAP authentication
The way I read that is that if the lookup in the files database returns anything except NOTFOUND then it should return immediately without continuing. So if the lookup in files returns success, unavail or tryagain then it will give up and return straight away without bothering to try to look...

Re: Problem with secondary groups and LDAP authentication
Do you have an /etc/groups entry for your user? This says to not bother to check LDAP if it is found in the file.
No, there are no entries corresponding to the gid on the client machine. (The current settings of /etc/group in nsswitch.conf ensure that if the LDAP server goes down th...
