Management Interface

I've been looking for something but can't find it. Is there a text based, menu driven server management interface somewhere out there? I know I can (and do) use something like WebMin, but I'm looking for something that is text based so I can run it via ssh or at the terminal without running X. Is th...

Re: Compiling Kernel Modules

Thanks for the reply and would that it were so easy. I tried doing that. The binary module supplied by the manufacturer (in this case Highpoint) is rr2100.ko. I copied from where it resided with the original kernel to the same spot relative to the new kernel. No joy. I also put it in a directory lik...

Compiling Kernel Modules

I'm running a SATA raid controller with a binary module that is provided only for the stock CentOS kernel, but I would like to run the newer kernel available through yum and be able to continue to upgrade the kernel as upgrades are released. Since I can't boot the system into the new kernel without ...

No Ethernet - Centos 5 using Realtek 8111b Chip

Here is a link to the Realtek download page for drivers (including for linux) for what appears to be your NIC.

http://152.104.125.41/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=5&PFid=5&Level=5&Conn=4&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false#RTL8111B/RTL8168B/RTL8111/RTL8168/RTL8111C

Good luck, hope it works.

SATA RAID ADAPTER - CentOS 5

My install of a High Point Rocketraid 2210 went fine (after some initial angst) but I get a kernel panic on reboot after a kernel upgrade. It looks like ths system does not know where to find the SATA driver, but I'm not sure.

Re: Problems with Highpoint Rocketraid 2210

Got the system daemon running by a more diligent reading of the friendly manual. But the problem still remains about being unable to run and updated kernel. After updating the kernel and rebooting I get the following error message. Redhat nash version 5.1.19.6 starting Unable to access resume device...

Re: Problems with Highpoint Rocketraid 2210

Got the rpms to uninstall by doing rpm --rebuilddb and then rpm -ev. Rebooted and installed only the x86_64 driver daemon. System still reports it is not loaded. Any hints appreciated.

Problems with Highpoint Rocketraid 2210

Running CentOS 5 x86_64 and trying to use a Highpoint Rocketraid 2210. I this has been a major pain. I got the driver initially installed and running and the OS installed. Now I need to run the utility to complete the install. Hpoint provides two files, a driver daemon and a utility, in this case a ...

Re: how to play mp3's?

An instance that proves the rule: CentOS makes a great desktop for use with LTSP in an office environment. In fact I have it deployed that way in our call center. In this case we want to limit what employees can do, we don't want them playing MP3's, watching YouTube videos, surfing flash enabled sit...

Exactly. Why bother? You could pound in nails with a monkey wrench, but a hammer would work better. Each tool to its task.
