Re: Dell 5820 workstation failed to start crash recovery
Thanks for the clarification. I'm a lab tech managing some Linux workstations and on a learning curve. We installed CentOS 7 to use some Cadence software packages for VLSI design. We also have a license for some software from Silvaco for simulating semiconductor stuff like diodes, transistors, and s...

Re: Dell 5820 workstation failed to start crash recovery
Ah, ok. I must have missed the memo on CentOS 9. And CentOS 8 is ending this year as well.

Dell 5820 workstation failed to start crash recovery
I have 4 Dell 5820 workstation with 64Gb RAM, 512GbSSD, and 2Gb Radeon video card. I now have 4 of these saying " [FAILED] Failed to start Crash recovery kernel arming ." What is going on here? A cursory search does not find anything specific. Have 4 more running Ubuntu 20 desktop with no problems. ...

Re: Paths to executables not working with non-admin accounts
Thank you everyone for the suggestions on administering a workstation. It turns out that InstallScape will not allow me to put their software into the 'opt/' directory. I tried changing the default directory, but it would not let me do it, so it seems I have limited options there. The InstallScape i...

Paths to executables not working with non-admin accounts
I am using the Cadence software package where the executables are located under these directories: # Provide paths to a Cadence application PATH=$PATH:/home/administrator/cadence/installs/IC618/bin PATH=$PATH:/home/administrator/cadence/installs/GENUS211/bin PATH=$PATH:/home/administrator/cadence/in...

Re: Copying a script from a PDF file to Vim, Nano, text editor. Bad interpreter and other errors
I had a workstation where I still had not set up the sh.local file with the script shown. It does appear if I copy the script from PDF into Nano, and save it, the script in sh.local did work with a log in under an administrator password. I'm now trying to solve why with a non-administrator ID the pr...

Re: Copying a script from a PDF file to Vim, Nano, text editor. Bad interpreter and other errors
I did find and apply the dos2unix, but I'm trying to get the heart of how the EOF works when copying in Linux so I can explain this critical detail. I'm a new Linux user and not familiar with the subtle details. I would guess not many new users are either. I'm also aware of the 'set ffs=unix' in Vim...

Copying a script from a PDF file to Vim, Nano, text editor. Bad interpreter and other errors
One of my projects is to write up some instructions to install Cadence software packages properly, and I have some scripts that need to be set up for it to work. If I had to start from scratch or handed this PDF install guide to someone, I want them to be able to copy the scripts in the PDF to a tex...

Re: Radeon Pro WX2100 driver install from rpm
Thanks for the clarification. I had noticed it, but it did not register at that particular moment. I have two workstations down and about a dozen more to go, but it appears that Cent OS 7 install will find the correct drivers for this card. I was wondering about the driver because we spent good mone...

Re: Radeon Pro WX2100 driver install from rpm
This afternoon, I retried it and got the following showing the install was successful: [administrator@engc129-90226 Downloads]$ sudo yum install amdgpu-install-22.10.4.50104-1.el7.noarch.rpm [sudo] password for administrator: Loaded plugins: fastestmirror, langpacks Examining amdgpu-install-22.10.4....
