I have disabled sftp. I don't want to remove the scp from binary to disable scp access as it has no use as users can do ssh cat. Your solutions worked out. yum reinstall \*.\*" and addressing the remaining permission mess with --setperms and setguids solved the issue. the files pjsr2 mentioned only still remaining and I ll investigate on that but system is back on track. Do you mean reinstalling the OS again? I can't do that as a lot of configurations, VMs ...involved I would appreciate fixing it with our installing system again

I restarted and problem still persists
nfs-server status is active exited
and after restart or when logging in to a new kernel rpc bind starts ok at first then when nfs starts all the problem shows up again
