Re: Online Practice

https://distrotest.net/CentOS, but that is CentOS 8.

They don't have CentOS 7 VM at DistroTest. You can try Scientific instead: https://distrotest.net/ScientificLinux

Re: Correct Syntax for bash script

The file switch.txt was probably created on Windows. You can 1) permanently remove all CRs from the file, e.g. sed -i 's/\r$//' switch.txt , or 2) remove them on-the-fly while reading the file: done <(tr -d \\r <switch.txt) , or 3) read line until CR only: while read -d$'\r' line , or 4) remove the ...

Re: Issues with Qt platform

You can try something like QT_QPA_PLATFORM=wayland argos geo_em.d01.nc or argos -platform wayland geo_em.d01.nc Last time I encountered a similar error message was when trying to start Modern CSV . It's a precompiled binary that comes with its set of Qt libraries. So I just removed qt.conf that came...

Re: What do you think of the recent Red Hat announcement about CentOS Linux/Stream?

Rocky-Linux will hopefully be out at the end of the month. It definitely won't be, despite what they were promising. Just have a look at their Koji . Their unofficial build server is not much better. And they still haven't figured out how to rebuild everything from source. I don't believe they'll e...

Re: Cannot login via GUI, always bounce back to GUI when I select a user

I think the problem is, that I had to install a software package as root. Then I forgot to logout as root and did several updates. How did you log in as root, from the GUI login screen? If this is the case, there are could be some files left owned by root that shouldn't be like ~/.ICEauthority or ~...

Re: finalising vmware esxi backup script

For starters, I'd use the date format %y-%m-%d instead of %d-%m-%y as it sorts nicely. I don't use VMWare, so cannot be sure about the output of vim-cmd commands, but some things look over-complicated. I mean awk '{ print $1 }' | awk '(NR>1)' is the same as awk 'NR>1{print$1}' and grep 'name' | awk ...

Re: Trying to install Process Explorer

If you're using the latest release/tag in Git (0.1.0), it still uses PyQt4 and python2. But if you're cloning from the Git head, it was changed to PyQt5/python3 in the last commit . Edit. Ah, now I see. The README says "download procexp from github as zip file from https://github.com/wolfc01/procexp...
