keep your wordpress host far away from anything else

it´s just like a honey pot

keep it updated, take care of plugins, block login from external IPs, run maldet on it and set fail2ban

then it´s safe...

look at your DNS, at your firewall, at your dhcpd, if your NIC is up, what kind of network your VM is using
