Centos 7 or 8

My CentOS box just crashed. I tried a recover disc, but it couldn't find a Linux system. Don't worry, I have all the important stuff backed up on DVDs. So after a few weeks I am going to run DBAN on another box and install CentOS. Should i use CentOS 7 or 8? I don't want too many problems. Thanks, M...

http: fail OPTIONS -D$MY_THING, etc.

With Centos 6, I tried use the OPTIONS in /etc/sysconfig/httpd to add a -D: OPTIONS=-D$MY_MY_THING and numerous variations thereof including quotes, spaces, and parentheses. I start httpd with a home-made bash script that calls systemctl. I read my result in httpd.conf with an <IfDefine MyEvaluatedT...

Cannot start httpd, 443 in use.

On my new Centos 7, I just tried to bring up httpd, using config files that have worked in the past. I did have to do some mods. Additionslly, I have removed NetworkManager, and I am using iptables (I did stop iptables for one test, I am behind a firewall). When I try systemctl start httpd httpd fai...

<solved>Re: What is SentinalSRM, port 1947? How do I remove it?

I opened my eyes wider and saw that the packets were coming from my nearby win7 box. I disabled a service on that box, and the packets disappeared.

Re: What is SentinalSRM, port 1947? How do I remove it?

Sorry I didn't mention that the target is internal: 192.168.1.255 I looked at a few packets with wireshark. the port 1974 is labeled "sentinelsrn". The data is 40 bytes long, and appears to contain a meaningless sequence of alphanumeric bytes. Could be base64, or could be a password. A very rough ex...

<solved>What is SentinalSRM, port 1947? How do I remove it?

On my new Centos 7, I just used iptables to implement my favorite security policy: If I don't know what it is, -j LOG-DROP I am getting a large number of UDP port 1947. The web shows me "SentinelSRM", among other things, but it is not clear what it is. Something to do with license? Do I need it? Thi...

Re: removing virsh

I did it and lost my K3B, which I reinstalled and got almost as many packages as I had deleted.
