It appears that smbclient does not support SMB2 or SMB3 in any 3.6. Since there is no support for SMB2/3 in cifs in CentOS 6 kernels, Samba4 would be the only way to connect with a Windows share that had proper security disabling SMB1. Samba 3.6 seems to only support SMB2/3 for Samba shares. Is this...

Thanks. I had forgotten Samba4 was not intended to be a "really" supported thing in CentOS 6. I'll focus on migration to CentOS 7.

The latest Samba4 version available in CentOS 6.9 is 4.2.10-12 (as of today) but the Samba site has 4.2.10 listed as "do not use". 4.2.11 has a bug fix for a regression.
